Medical students enjoy masti at health mela

New Delhi, Saturday 10th October, 2009 : Over a thousand doctors including a large number of students from all medical colleges in Delhi were advised here today by their seniors colleagues to be soft spoken, punctual in appointments and attend to their patients always with  a smile on their face.

At the ongoing Perfect Health Mela being organized by Heart Care Foundation of India jointly with Health Department, Delhi Government from 3rd to 12th October, 2009 at NDMC Grounds, Laxmibai Nagar, New Delhi, Dr. K.K. Aggarwal, President of the Mela pointed out that doctors should write the prescription and the case history legibly without reflecting even an iota of doubt.

Self use of drugs at any cost should be avoided. Even one tablet of painkiller in patients with underlying kidney problems can precipitate kidney failure. No drug is safe and hence should not be taken without medical prescription.

Dr. K.K. Aggarwal pointed out that basic causes of a disease apart from external factors constitute mental factors like fear of death and unanswered worries. He also said told the doctors to tackle patients with love. He called upon the budding doctors not to overprescribe and prescribe unnecessary drugs which may have side effects.

Various entertainment programmes, choreography, check up, best health slogans, fashion show etc were held at Medico Masti. Dr A K Aggarwal, Dean MAMC and Dr SS Agrawal Prof DIPSAR said that failing the high level of stress among the practicing doctors, the budding doctors feel that fun, recreation and masti should be a part and parcel of medical education.

It is said that definition of health is incomplete without mental relaxation. 20 doctors participated in a event where you forget past or future not only helps in relaxation but also preventing or tackling lifestyle disorders.

Popular singer VIPIN ANEJA was the star attraction of the mela. Singing and addressing the medical students he said that one should listen to music for 20 minutes every day for inn peace and happiness.

Diwali myths on display in the mela

In the ongoing MTNL Perfect Health Mela, both Department of Food Adulteration, Government of Delhi and the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India are teaching the public how to detect adulteration in common food items:

1. Vanaspati in milk – cause of GI and liver disorders: The test is simple. Take milk in a test tube and add 5 drops of hydrochloric acid along with some sugar. If the colour of the sample turns red, it indicates presence of vanaspati inside the milk.
2. Presence of Metanil Yellow in haldi  can cause caner: The same can be detected by adding five drops of hydrochloric acid and five drops of water in the haldi powder. If the sample gets magenta colour, it indicates adulteration.

3.  Argemona oil adulteration can cause health hazards: The same can be detected by taking a sample of food oil with equal amount of nitric acid and leave it for five minutes. If it develops red colour, it indicates presence of Argemona oil.
