Swine contact guidelines released
Thursday 11th June 2009 HCFI: One can get swine flu if one had a close contact with a confirmed, probable, or suspected case of H1N1 influenza A, said Dr KK Aggarwal President Heart Care Foundation of India and Director IMAAKN Sinha Institute.
The situations where you can get infected are
Having had close contact with a flu patient
Kissing a flu patient
Embracing a flu patient
sharing eating or drinking utensils with a flu patient
physical examination of a flu patient
Any other contact likely to result in exposure to respiratory droplets.
Having cared for or lived with a person who is a confirmed, probable, or suspected case of H1N1 influenza A.
Having been in a setting where there was a high likelihood of contact with respiratory droplets and/or bodily fluids of a confirmed, probable, or suspected case of H1N1 influenza A
Situations where one can not get flu are
· You have walked with a person suffering from swine flu.
· Sitting across with a symptomatic patient in a waiting room.
· Talking to a flu patient
