Reducing heart attack deaths in Delhi


Sunday 16th August: New Delhi HCFI: Heart disease is a bigger killer than FLU. Heart disease kills 42 people in Delhi alone every day out of total 277 deaths per day. Out of these 30 deaths per day occur outside the hospital and can be saved if public is taught chest compression cardiac resuscitation and automated external heart shock devises are placed in public busy areas said             Dr. KK Aggarwal President, Heart Care Foundation of India, and Director, IMA AKN Sinha Institute.  He was speaking on the occasion of INDIAN OIL HEART CAMP organized at Acharya Sushil Ashram New Delhi.

Dr. Aggarwal said that there are 5 lac heart patients in Delhi. Heart disease affects 10% population over the age of thirty. In Delhi 270 angiographies, 60 angioplasties and 20 pace makers are implanted every day.

The annual number is approx one lac angiographies, 22000 angioplasties and 7000 pacemakers a year. Inaugurating the camp Mr. Sudhir Bhalla Executive Director Indian Oil Corporation said that the emphasis should be on life style changes so that heart diseases can be prevented. Heart patients are also at risk for flu and should be the first ones to be given a flu shot once available, till that period they should continue on their regular flu shot. 


Over 750 people got their heart check up done at the camp. Dignitaries who attended the camp were famous Kathak dancers Ms Nalini and Ms Kamalini, Mr. Ajit Pathak Chief Manager Corporate communications Indian Oil and Dr. Acharya Sadhvi Sadhna ji Maharaj.
