Dr Aggarwal said that individuals with established cardiovascular disease and those at high risk are susceptible to the complications of flu infection both human flu and swine flu.

Many randomized, controlled trials have demonstrated a reduction in cardiovascular events as a result of flu vaccination in this patient population.

In 2006, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology joined the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in recommending annual flu vaccination using the inactivated preparation as part of a comprehensive secondary prevention program in children and adults with coronary and other atherosclerotic vascular diseases. This recommendation was based on evidence that influenza vaccination is protective against cardiovascular events in individuals with known coronary heart blockages. Furthermore, there is no evidence that influenza vaccination is harmful in persons with cardiovascular conditions.

In the current flu mania till the swine flu vaccine is available all heart patient and diabetic patients should take regular flu vaccine to prevent conventional flu.

Noted Bhajan Singer Sh. Rajeev Chopra guest of the day said that every one above the age of twenty should have his or her annual health check up done once a year.
